Some people in Japan believe foxes have mystical powers or that they are messengers of Inari Okami, the Shinto deity of fertility, prosperity and rice. For around 100 yen (85 US cents) visitors are allowed to feed the foxes with food that is provided. The foxes are not domesticated so small children are cautioned against hand-feeding.
