Some couples are destined to be together – something that Cathleen Cavin and Brian Herrera found out first hand.
This beautiful love story began in 2014 when Cathleen decided to adopt a cat.
The single mom and her daughter headed to their local shelter in Petaluma, California and fell in love with two identical kittens.
However this family only had room for one furry friend – so the mother and daughter had a big decision to make.
“We had such a hard time picking one at the shelter because they looked so much alike and we couldn’t tell them apart,” Cathleen explained.
The pair took one kitten home and named him Ozzy, but Cathleen kept thinking about the kitten they had left behind.
However fast forward to 2016 and something amazing happened.
After being single for a while, Cathleen’s friends convinced her to try the dating app Tinder. It wasn’t long before she met Brian Herrera who was also a single dad.
The pair had a whole host of similar interests but had never crossed paths before.
While Cathleen wasn’t sure at first, she eventually agreed to a first date.
They went to dinner and hit if off immediately, neither of them wanting the evening to come to an end. They headed back to Brian’s house and that’s when the most amazing thing happened.
“We walked out to his back yard and I saw an orange and white cat out of the corner of my eye. I did a double take and walked over to the cat and could NOT believe my eyes,” says Cathleen. “I knew right away that he was Ozzy’s lost brother! I started yelling out, ‘That’s my cat, that’s my cat!’ He just thought I was making it up or a crazy cat lady!”
Cathleen wasn’t completely wrong.
It turns out just four days after Cathleen adopted Ozzy, Brian had adopted his brother – who he named Butter.
While the couple were pretty certain these pretty kitties were in fact siblings, they decided to contact the shelter for extra confirmation.
It was true! The shelters record proved they were long lost brothers.
“After realizing that we had long lost cat brothers, we were amazed and felt like it was serendipity!” says Cathleen. “It was love at first sight when we met and the cats just solidified that we truly belong together!”
To make the situation even more perfect, Brian and Cathleen’s love only blossomed. While the cats have already met, the loved-up pair have decided to keep the cats apart for now, but they do plan to move in together soon.
Ozzy and Butter were a little unsure of one another to begin with – but soon enough they realised they were brothers.
“It will be a process but I have no doubt that the two will start snuggling again soon!” says Cathleen.
“You never know how much animals can change your lives and bring happiness, joy and hope to your home!”
