Not all animal adoption stories have a happy ending – sometimes things just don’t work out. This is something one family know all too well.

Last September they adopted a three-year-old brindle boxer mix named Rhino Lightening – Rhino for short.

Despite Rhino being a happy and healthy puppy, the family found the dog a little too lively to live with their small children. Sadly Rhino was taken back to the Humane Society of Utah, but he arrived with a note that broke everybody’s heart.

A Heartwarming Note

To make Rhino’s next home his forever home, the little girl who had lived with Rhino filled a notebook with instructions and vital information about the dog. She was losing a true friend.

“Hi, if you are reading this, you must own Rhino now. He was my puppy. I really hope he is in a good environment. I really miss him. I wish he knew that he was a pretty puppy.”
