Being trapped in a small, dark hole underground is most people’s ideal of hell. Sadly, this was a reality for a lonely pup for over a week in the town of Beykoz, Turkey.

Locals noticed repeated whimpering and barking one day and decided to investigate. They soon discovered a three-month-old puppy stuck alone in a narrow borehole well that was just 30 centimeters wide.

At that moment it was unclear if the puppy was harmed in any way or how it got there, so the locals made it their mission to help.

The locals who found the puppy alerted authorities and the story quickly spread across social media and onto national television. It wasn’t long before municipality workers and animal rights activists rushed to the scene to offer their services.

Time was of the essence and the volunteers’ efforts to retrieve the puppy from the pit were unsuccessful so far. They needed to get a closer look at the puppy and analyse the hole to confirm the next logical step. In an attempt to keep the puppy calm and alive, rescuers were able to give the puppy food.
