Elephants are one of the most majestic animals to walk the earth, however many around the world are subject to cruelty and treated inhumanely all in the name of tourism.
This is the heartbreaking story of Raju, a wild elephant from India who was captured when he was just a calf and has since lived a long life of abuse and cruelty.
Throughout his life, Raju had been sold time and time again after being stolen from his mother when he was just a baby, and sold at a market.
His most recent owner was from a small town in India called Allahabad and the man was well known for his abusive behaviour toward both animals and humans, including his own wife and children.
The cruel man had owned many animals before Raju who would earn him money in public shows and religious ceremonies.
But he would always sell them on when they were no longer in a fit condition to perform or leave them at the side of the road to die.
Raju was no different – his cruel owner would make people pay to watch the distressed animal perform.
