When an animal rescue organisation in Kenya spotted something out of the ordinary in a dried up mud hole, they had no idea that they would have the most intense rescue mission on their hands.

The little lump protruding from the deadly hole was in fact an unfortunate tiny baby hippo who had got itself trapped in the murky sludge…

It was December 22nd 2016 when a group of passengers enjoyed a flight over the Kenyan coast and noticed something abnormal hundreds of feet below. A tiny hippo was frantically trying to escape the depths of a dried up mud hole!

The passengers did the right thing and reported the incident to local conservationists. They then monitored the animal over the coming days to check if it was an orphaned hippo. When no mother returned to save the poor stranded baby, they knew they had to step in before time ran out.
