Not so long ago we reported on the story of Tomi – a brown bear who was trapped in concrete prison and used as a tourist attraction at an Albanian restaurant.
The brown bear became known as the world’s saddest bear who was fed junk food from strangers and self harmed as he was so distressed.
But things have certainly changed since we first reported on his story..
However he has finally been rescued from the tiny cell he called home.
He was stolen from his natural habitat two years ago, but last week he was seized by the government and is set to start a new life in a nature reserve.
After being taken from his careless owner, Tomi arrived at Tirana Zoo to be checked over by vets and will travel over the boarder to neighbouring Kosovo for his new home at the bear sanctuary.
The Four Paws charity organised the rescue with the Albanian Environment Ministry after pressure from the outraged public.
